6.4 . HYDRO POWER

Hydraulic power can be captured when water flows downward from a higher level to a lower level which is then

used to turn the turbine, thereby converting the kinetic energy of water into mechanical energy to drive the generator.

Hydro power is cheapest, and cleanest source of energy but there are many environmental and social issues associated with big dams as seen in projects like Tehri, Narmada, etc. Small hydro power are free from these problems
