Background

In last few years, there has been a heated debate on the topic of ‘Master of Roaster’. The recent debate all started with when a public interest lawyer filed a petition in the Supreme Court in the Judges bribery case and asking the Chief Justice of India to recuse in the matter, to which he refused.

Later on, four senior most judges of the Supreme Court came out to do a press conference and

blamed the then Chief Justice of India for selectively allotting cases to preferred benches. In response to that, the CJI published a new subject wise roster for allocation of cases. However, this allocation, did little to pacify the judges as the CJI allocated most important public litigations matters to himself.
