1.1. Background

India shares total border of around 3,488 k.m with China (second largest after Bangladesh).

The border is not fully demarcated and the process of clarifying and confirming the Line of Actual Control is in progress. It is characterized by high altitude terrain and inadequate development of infrastructure in these regions.
