3. Shifting Cultivation


Tribals in the areas where rainfall is more than 100 cm generally practice shifting cultivation {Jhurnin^ in the hilly and mountainous areas. The increasing

pressure of population has reduced thejhum Cycle to only five years in many parts of Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura. Consequently, the forests do not have sufficient time to regenerate.
