Pulicat Lake

It is the second largest brackish water lake on the Coromandal Coast. It lies on the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The barrier island of Sriharikota separates the lake from the Bay of Bengal. The lake is 60 km long and varies 0.5 to 18 km in width. It is the habitat of numerous local and migratory birds.

Nearly 15,000 flamingos visit the lake every year, along with pelicans, kingfishers, herons, painted storks, spoonbills and ducks.
