Situated in the state of Rajasthan, about 45 km to the east of Udaipur, it is the largest artificial lake of India. It stretches over an area of about 87 sq km. It was built in the 17th century when Ranajai Singh of Udaipur built a marble dam across the Gomati River. This lake has three islands; the Jaisamand Resort is located on the biggest island.
