3.10.4. Security Council Counter Terrorism Committee

Guided by Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001) and 1624 (2005), the CTC works to bolster the ability of United Nations Member States to prevent terrorist acts both within their borders and across regions.

It was established in the wake of the 11 September terrorist attacks in the United States.

In addition to the Counter-Terrorism Committee and CTED, the Council has established:

o the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) and its Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team concerning ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities; and

o the Non-proliferation Committee established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) and its Expert Group.

o The Council also established a Working Group on the victims of terrorism, pursuant to its resolution 1566 (2004).
