1.16. Strategic Components of the Relationship

As reflected in the PM’s visit to the United Sates in June 2017 the Strategic contents of the

relationship revolve around the following:

o Situation in Afghanistan, North Korea, Middle East, Pakistan, Indo-Pacific Region,

o India's membership in export control agreements and UN Security Council,

o Cyber space,

o Malabar naval exercises,

o Reaffirmation of India's designation as a Major Defence Partner,

o United States to join as an Observer in the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium

These are key for the future of the global relationship. The South Asia Strategy, issued in August 2017, and the National Security Strategy, released in November 2017, both bring the US and India into a closer alignment on multiple issues.
