The U.S. law and Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) guidelines forbid the sharing of nuclear fuel and technology with countries classified as “non-nuclear weapons states” under the NPT, unless those states accept full-scope International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) is key in interntional cooperation in the arena of civilian nuclear programs. Thus, this civil nuclear agreement provided India a re-entry into international nuclear cooperation with exceptional arrangements with USA, NSG and IAEA.
