5.3. Brexit

Brexit is a word that has become used as a shorthand way of saying the UK leaving the EU - merging the words Britain and exit to get Brexit.

 

♤ On 23 June 2016 citizens of the United Kingdom (UK) voted in a referendum to leave the European Union (EU). On 29 March 2017 the UK formally notified the European Council of its intention to leave the EU by triggering of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. It is scheduled to depart at 11pm UK time on Friday 29 March, 20195.3.2. India and Brexit♤ Many Brexit supporters argued that the EU was the biggest obstacle to U.K.-India trade.
